It’s been a long time coming but yesterday, at the end of what felt like a very long morning, the planning committee at Suffolk Coastal District Council voted unanimously to accept the planning officer’s recommendation that Jetty Lane’s application be approved (with a number of reasonable conditions). Numerous heart-warming comments were made by members of the committee, showing that they understand our vision, like the design and appreciate the need for all aspects of the building – we will proceed boosted by their good wishes.

One local resident spoke of his objection to the building. While we sympathise with neighbours who may have concerns about how Jetty Lane will be used, we will sincerely endeavour to allay fears by behaving decently and reasonably.

We were disappointed by the fact that Patti Mulcahy, district counsellor for Woodbridge but not a member of the planning committee, came into the meeting and made a speech expressly to ask the committee to reject the Jetty Lane application.

Next steps are for Jetty Lane to transition from being a CIC to a charity and for us to ensure that all i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed in our paperwork. From that point on it will be full steam ahead with grant applications and fundraising.

Do get in touch if you would like to make a donation, you’re able to organise a fundraising activity on our behalf or you’re part of a group which might like to use Jetty Lane and wish to discuss your requirements.
