Through the Suffolk Young Trustee Programme that Community Action Suffolk deliver, I have joined Jetty Lane CIC as a Young Shadow Board Member. I’m 22 years old and work as a Project Officer in community sport and physical activity for Suffolk Sport. My background in community sport will help ensure that the building meets local physical activity needs and that there are wellbeing interventions in place for the staff that will be working there. In my current role at Suffolk Sport, I work with inactive young people to address inequalities by providing opportunities for underrepresented groups to participate in sport and physical activity. I feel that my experience with young people and as a 22 year old myself, I will be able to provide Jetty Lane with the voice of young people.
I’m relatively new to Jetty Lane in comparison to the Directors and I feel this will help with fresh thinking as I am looking at Jetty Lane with a fresh pair of eyes. I support the project as young people need to be engaged in evening activity with positive role models, otherwise some may steer into undesirable behaviour due to boredom and not having the right provisions in place. I hope to improve the range of my skill sets volunteering as a Young Shadow Board Member for Jetty Lane. I’m looking forward to working with likeminded people who give a significant amount of their time to make sure the centre gets built to support the local community.
